Best failsafe bolognese in the ENTIRE WORLD!!!

Omg this is the best thing I have ever eaten (since I've been a failsafer at least haha)
This recipe was adapted from Sandra at Cooking for Oscar http://www.cookingforoscar.com/recipe/no-tomato-sauce/ with some more inspiration from Frilly Pants over at Real Meals http://realfailsafemeals.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/spaghetti-bolognese.html

The sauce will be made with my version of the low salicylate no-tomato sauce for ease of reference I have put the recipe for the sauce below, make sure you have ingredients for both sections!

TIP: You don't need a Thermomix to make this, you will just need to chop all ingredients by hand and use some sort of food processor for the sauce, Thermomix just makes it a boatload easier.

Ingredients:
Mince either organic fresh lamb or beef or a mixture (you can also make mince in your TMX)
Two stalks celery
Two leeks
Bunch of shallots
3 garlic cloves
Failsafe oil (I recommend buying organic cold pressed as mainstream oils are often processed in a way which makes them toxic), sunflower oil will do. Today I have used olive oil as I am trying to increase my sals limit.

Method:
Peel garlic cloves, roughly chop vegetables (no need to be small) and pop in your TMX, speed 6 for approx 5 seconds, check to see if they are finely chopped.
Put half of them in the saucepan and leave half in the bowl for the sauce.
Put saucepan on LOWEST heat with lid on and a DECENT amount of oil. Slowly simmer.
After about 10 minutes pop the mince in a chop it all up with your TMX spatula or some other random kitchen implement. Turn the heat up a little to seal and then pop it back on low with the lid on to keep simmering.
Whilst this is simmering make sauce (reminder for sauce recipe below)
Ingredients:
1 Can red kidney beans
a few saffron threads soaked in 1/2 cup water (saffron threads optional, must use water)
1 pear- peeled and cut in half
1/2 sweet potato cut into large chunks (*WARNING mod sals, can be omitted)
2 tablespoons of butter (optional)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon citric acid
1 packet of pasta
Put all ingredients except water and pasta in the Thermomix (with half of the leeks, shallots and garlic you have already chopped up) and pulverise on speed 8 for 8 seconds
Add water with soaked saffron threads
With the MC cup in place cook for 25 minutes on speed 3 at 100 degrees
Put some water onto boil while the sauce is cooking and make the pasta, strain, mix through mince, shallots, leeks, and sauce. Sprinkle a little organic unflavoured cheese over the top if you can tolerate it. BEST FAILSAFE BOLOGNESE IN THE WORLD!!

My Version of Sandra's Low Salicylate- No Tomato Sauce

Since undertaking a low salicylate diet I have craved bolognese and pasta NON-STOP, I have actually been known to cry because I just want to eat some bolognese, HAHA! Slightly ridiculous for a grown woman but what can I say? It's tough not being able to eat the food you truly love and have grown up with. I found this recipe on Frilly Pants Real Failsafe Meals http://realfailsafemeals.blogspot.com.au/ and slightly adapted it. It does contain a small amount of sweet potato which is moderate in sals but this is optional. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did <3

Also don't worry if you don't have a Thermomix, put the ingredients in a food processor and then cook on the stove, hopefully this will work well, I have only tried it in Thermomix

Ingredients:
1 Can red kidney beans
2 leeks- cut in large chunks
2-3 cloves garlic- peel them and leave whole
a few saffron threads soaked in 1/2 cup water (saffron threads optional, must use water)
1 pear- peeled and cut in half
1/2 sweet potato cut into large chunks (*WARNING mod sals, can be omitted)
2 tablespoons of butter (optional)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon citric acid
1 packet of pasta (I used Gluten/Wheat free Organic Mung Bean Futtucini- ingredients certified organic green mung beans, water) I found it at Mrs Flannery's.
Put all ingredients except water and pasta in the Thermomix and pulverise on speed 8 for 8 seconds
Add water with soaked saffron threads
With the MC cup in place cook for 25 minutes on speed 3 at 100 degrees
While cooking put some water onto boil and make your pasta, strain, mix sauce in, sprinkle a little cheese that you tolerate on top if you wish.
I found this delicious and has totally fixed my epic cravings for bolognese haha!!
Enjoy :)

If you would like to have a home demonstration of the Thermomix in action (and have me cook you and your family/a few friends a 6 course meal, catering to any food intolerances) in Brisbane please email me on jessrems@gmail.com and I will be in touch!

Detoxing and Returning to Health

Detoxing can be a very powerful, wonderful way to clean your insides out, lose weight, brighten your skin, clean the blood, return to vibrant health and eliminate parasites. It helps to bring the body back into balance ensuring pathogenic microorganisms such as candida don't get out of control in the body.
This is my personal detox plan, feel free to use it although this is only what I PERSONALLY do for myself (tailored to my food intolerances), it is essential that you are supervised by a highly qualified naturopath/nutritionist and a detox is also CONTRAINDICATED in pregnancy- as during the process of removing toxins etc these could be passed on to the baby and cause serious damage.

Detox steps (many of these steps will not be suitable for those with severe salicylate intolerance SORRY! Suitable for celiac's, wheat intolerant etc), begin with a few days of vegetable juice fasting and chicken bone broth and vegetable soups.

You may use one piece of fruit in your morning juice but throughout the day it is best just to use vegetables (you can use as much lemon and lime as you want however) so that your sugar levels don't get out of control as candida etc will feed off all sugar including fruit, the best kinds of vegetables to juice are green ones- these will be very alkalising and excellent at detoxing and cleaning the blood, include spirulina, celery, barley and wheat grass, chlorella, kale etc. You may use a high quality protein powder such as Tony Sfeirs pea protein or egg yolks in your juice for extra energy and protein.

Throughout entire treatment it is ESSENTIAL to practice dry skin brushing, take epsom salt baths, get sunshine every day and exercise, DON'T overdo it on the exercise during this time however, light yoga and a nice walk in the park will be enough. It is also very important to have quiet time every day, meditate and practice positive affirmations and loving and approving of yourself.

After a few days of fasting begin to introduce more whole vegetables, seeds, nuts, grains if you tolerate them (quinoa, buckwheat, millet, amaranth only, in their WHOLE form (not flour, bread, pasta etc), including plenty of ginger, garlic, coconut oil, organic eggs, spices and herbs and variety but do not introduce dairy or meat at this stage. At this time you want to begin taking a supplement to kill off parasites, you can find these at your local health food store and are usually made of herbs such as black walnut, wormwood, garlic etc. It would also be advisable to make sure you are getting essential minerals so continue with the bone broth soup throughout. It is essential to take PLENTY of Vit C, 4 teaspoons of pure Melrose brand a day would be excellent. Don't forget to continue with exercise, sunshine and meditation. It would also be a wonderful idea to take a good quality fish oil. After a good three weeks on this protocol you can discontinue the use of the parasite killer.

Commence replenishing friendly bacteria, I use kefir made on raw organic milk and water kefir (read this to find out more http://www.rawfoodmelbourne.com/water-kefir/), also include kombucha, these are all amazing probiotic drinks for replenishing friendly bacteria and the best news is they are DELICIOUS. It would be particularly beneficial to take the probiotic SB floractic or another high quality probiotic capsule. Introduce small amounts of raw organic grass fed meat slowly as well as raw organic butter (preferably cultured), while still using coconut oil and all other things previously listed in the diet above.
To maintain health benefits continue to eat in this manner indefinitely, after a few months you may cease taking probiotic capsules but continue with kefirs, kombucha etc.

WHAT NOT TO DO DURING A DETOX
Eat any amount of processed/packaged foods, sugar, fast food, flour, gluten etc etc
Eat dried fruits (high in sugar)

If you live in Brisbane and wish to hold a Thermomix demonstration please email me at jessrems@gmail.com with your contact details and I will be in touch.

Best of luck!
Jessie :)

Veganism and Raw Foodies vs Meat and Healthy Fat Eaters

Veganism, low fat diets and 100% raw food are all the latest rage. I myself was personally a vegetarian (not a vegan) from the age of 5 after seeing a beast hung up on huge hooks on the farm I was living, my parents for the life of them could not get me to eat meat after this experience. I became very thin and was constantly getting sick (I was however still eating milk, cheese and butter but not the full fat, organic, pasture fed raw kinds) and I hated eggs. When I was a teenager I finally began to eat meat as long as it was "hidden" ie in bolognese, lassagne, burgers, that kind of thing. When I was 18 I was seeing a guy who thought it was ridiculous that I wouldn't eat a delicious steak or sashimi or lamb chops and made me try them every time he cooked. I actually discovered I LOVED meat and thought it was the most delicious thing in the world, especially an expensive eye fillet, cooked perfectly medium rare in a garlic and butter sauce. Delicious!

I have had serious health problems my whole life which lead me on the journey of attempting to find out how to be truly vibrantly healthy and happy. I have undertaken many, MANY years and hours of research and am now also studying naturopathy and nutrition. Before I started my degree I started getting into yoga (which is absolutely wonderful) but was constantly touted at to become a vegetarian (I thought bugger that I'm not giving up meat) which by the way I only EVER buy from the organic butcher, no added hormones, antibiotics and they take great care to treat the animals in an extremely humane manner. I even went on a 10 day detox retreat in Thailand, Iwas already severely underweight but because I had eaten junk food my whole life and was so sick I thought a good clean out was in order. We were only aloud vegetable juices and steamed vegetables for the entire 10 days. This would be fine and extremely beneficial for someone who was overweight (NOT as a lifestyle choice but as a DETOX!) but I began to rapidly lose even more weight and started blacking out and could not even get up the stairs I was so weak. By day 7 I literally thought I was going to die and my friend and I snuck away to see if we could find something to make me better, we came across a place down the road that were doing New Zealand steak with a garlic and butter sauce. I couldn't be happier and the next 3 days I cam back for lunch and dinner to supplement my diet of vegetable juice and vegetables. I instantly felt much better and had listened to my cravings and bodies needs for meat and building foods. I did notice that most of the "yogis" on the retreat who were into raw food looked old and emaciated and the ones who were vibrantly healthy admitted they still eat some meat and have a lot of eggs and fats such as butter or ghee.

My friend who has been a practitioner in the natural medicine field for well over 20 years has described to me people he has known who have had to have full bowel reconstructions as a result of 100% raw food because it is too hard on our digestive system. It is an ESPECIALLY bad idea if you suffer from leaky gut or other digestive problems. Of course it is wonderful to include juiced vegetables in the diet as well as soaked and sprouted seeds etc but our body is simply not designed to live off 100% raw food!

The studies of Dr Price (Enig & Fallon, 1999) who followed the diets of isolated traditional people showed that the butter these people consumed was exceptionally high in all fat soluble vitamins and according to him, without these we would not be able to utilise the minerals we ingest no matter how much of these we were getting in other foods. Raw butter also contains the ‘Wulzen factor’ discovered by Rosalind Wulzen, it is also known as the anti-stiffness factor which protects against calcification of joints, hardening of the arteries, cataracts and calcification of the pineal gland (Enig & Fallon, 1999).
There are MANY other health benefits to be obtained from using raw butter from organic, pasture fed cows. Read http://bodyecology.com/articles/benefits_of_real_butter.php

Coconut oil is extremely high in salicylates but if you are not salicylate intolerant this is a wonderful oil to use. Coconut oil is particularly important for those suffering from candida or other fungal infections or parasites. It has amazing antifungal and antimicrobial properties and contains lauric acid which has very similar properties to that of mothers milk.  Studies actually reveal that coconut oil protects the heart from cardiovascular disease and also has anti-cancer properties. Pacific Islanders who use it as a regular staple have a very low incidence of cardiovascular disease.

For more information about which are the healthiest fats and which are toxic, free-radical producing read my post http://thehealthyjessie.wordpress.com/2012/11/02/the-truth-about-fats/
Kefir has been used for a very long time by the Turkish and is a wonderful healing drink and excellent for leaky gut and replenishing good bacteria.  Made by using kefir grains to ferment milk, the healthiest option is to use raw, organic milk from grass fed cows, read http://bodyecology.com/digestive-health-kefir-starter.html#sthash.mXM3ODDr.dpbs to learn how to make it!

Eggs are an excellent source of protein and should always be bought pastured, organic as they contain much higher levels of Vit D, A, omega-3 fatty acids, Vit E and beta- carotene then commercial eggs.
Now down to the big one, organic, grass fed MEAT!
B12 deficiency, vegans claim that Vit B 12 can be obtained from plant sources. This is a myth as our body cannot absorb and assimilate it in this form.

The only reliable and absorbable sources of vitamin B12 are animal products, especially organ meats and eggs and to a lesser extent dairy. Vegans, therefore, should consider adding dairy products into their diets. If dairy cannot be tolerated, eggs, preferably from free-run hens are absolutely necessary and if eggs ALSO cannot be tolerated they should seriously reconsider being a vegan.
"That vitamin B12 can only be obtained from animal foods is one of the strongest arguments against veganism being a "natural" way of human eating. Today, vegans can avoid anemia by taking supplemental vitamins or fortified foods. If those same people had lived just a few decades ago, when these products were unavailable, they would have died" (Byrnes, 2002, Weston A Price Foundation).

If you are vegetarian you will live a decade longer! INCORRECT!!!!!!
Below info taken from http://www.westonaprice.org/vegetarianism-and-plant-foods/myths-of-vegetarianism?qh=YTozOntpOjA7czo0OiJtZWF0IjtpOjE7czo1OiJtZWF0cyI7aToyO3M6NjoiJ21lYXQnIjt9
It is usually claimed that meat-eating peoples have a short life span, but the Aborigines of Australia, who traditionally eat a diet rich in animal products, are known for their longevity (at least before colonization by Europeans).

Similarly, the Russians of the Caucasus mountains live to great ages on a diet of fatty pork and whole raw milk products. The Hunzas, also known for their robust health and longevity, eat substantial portions of goat's milk which has a higher saturated fat content than cow's milk. In contrast, the largely vegetarian Hindus of southern India have the shortest life-spans in the world, partly because of a lack of food, but also because of a distinct lack of animal protein in their diets. H. Leon Abrams' comments are instructive here:
Vegetarians often maintain that a diet of meat and animal fat leads to a pre-mature death. Anthropological data from primitive societies do not support such contentions (Byrnes, 2002, Weston A Price Foundation).
I believe the healthiest diet is the one which suits a particular person's body (not ideas) best. You must listen to your body, if it is showing signs of dis-ease and ill health it is time to change your ways. If you are thin, have sunken eyes and are emaciated maybe it is time to review your way of eating. If you are anaemic obviously something has to change. If you are overweight, lethargic and don't want to get out of bed, again, SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE.

I follow the diets set out in the Body Ecology Diet and the Weston A Price guidelines adapted to the fact that I do not wish to consume any alcohol, am allergic to nuts and sulphur ripened fruit and have a salicylate intolerance http://www.westonaprice.org/basics/dietary-guidelines

Of course I consume mostly vegetables (the ones I can tolerate) but I also consume large quantities of homemade organic cultured butter, because it is delicious and healthy for me and I consume organic grass fed meat, free of antibiotics and hormones on a regular basis as well as including kefir in my diet.

The proof is in the pudding, I'd rather look like Nigella!!

Bioresonance- The Life Changing, Healing Therapy

My excitement is barely containable, I have gone from someone who was feeling like there was no hope in the world and that I would never be able to eat normal food or have a normal life again to someone who is excited about all that life has to offer me and am getting better every day in every way!
It all started with Louise Hay.

This semester has been my first at my new college where I study Naturopathy and Nutrition. I had been told about Louise Hay before by a wonderful massage therapist, Kim from the Kahuna Connection in Brisbane, she mentioned it might help for my skin problems, I thought it sounded a bit silly and had been so used to telling myself such negative things that I brushed it off.
This semester my favourite teacher Leonie constantly referred to Louise Hay in different subjects and in different ways and many of my students spoke of her teachings highly. I finally got up the courage to purchase a single book, Empowering Women. I devoured it rapidly and wanted more so I bought two of her audio Cd's for personal healing, I Can Do It affirmation cards and You Can Heal Your Life the movie and book as well as Modern-Day Miracles, the stories of those who changed their lives with Louise Hay's materials.

It has only been two weeks since I started this Louise Hay business but since then amazing things have happened. My friend Reece casually mentioned Bioresonance therapy for allergies/intolerances and I immediately looked it up and found Melanie from Into Harmony, I liked the look of her site best http://www.intoharmony.com.au/. She had a nice video explaining the treatment and her personal story resonated with me.

I also came across several wonderful facebook groups of others who are experiencing food related problems, they also mentioned Bioresonance therapy as well as provided me and each other with a tremendous amount of support.

I couldn't afford the appointment and then my tax came back! (All my affirmations and changed thoughts about the way the universe works were working). I was thrilled and booked in with Melanie right away. She was so warm and accepting of me immediately. We got to work straight away and she started testing different things in my body with the Bioresonance machine- if you want to know what on earth this thing is watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-Oyrc752C4

In between all the tests she also worked with me on Emotional Balancing Therapy which was really wonderful and powerful, quite similar to Louise Hay's work, you can read about her different therapies here http://www.intoharmony.com.au/id138.html

So my tests revealed that I have Epstein Barr virus, Herpes Simplex (cold sore virus), I react to dust mites, grass, sulfur (just sulfur ripened fruits, dried fruit and smoked meat), animals, wheat flour (but not gluten), dairy (just that with sugar in it, which means I can have natural yoghurt, fresh goats cheese and fresh organic cheeses), sugar and oats (weird), salicylates didn't even register and apparently my reactions are from the the other environmental allergens exacerbated by a candida problem (I knew this would be the case given the huge amount of antibiotics, steroids and also the bout of contraceptive methods that I reacted very poorly too). I also had some parasite issues, a bit of a copper problem as well as a few other heavy metals and some radiation.

It is important to note that there is no point in undergoing Bioresonance if you are unwilling to make the necessary nutritional and environmental changes in your life. You have to be ready and willing to HELP YOURSELF!

The machine then went about its business of beginning to eliminate these problems for me by treating them with the appropriate frequency patterns and supporting the body's own regulatory system. This sorts out the communication among the cells meaning the stressing substances can set free and removed!
Melanie also prescribed me a single remedy to assist with my healing and gave me a pack of information to read to help with creating an environment and body that can maintain my health.
It was the best thing I have ever done with my life. I will literally be cured of all my problems in a very short time with the help of Louise Hay, Bioresonance and nutritional support. I couldn't be happier or more excited!

All the best to you all and if you suffer from allergies, anxiety, stress, migraines, chronic fatigue, candida, sinus/hay fever, pain, ADD/ADHD, viruses, chemical sensitivities, radiation, heavy metal toxicity, parasites, scars, hormonal imbalances, skin conditions, infections, addictions, emotional issues or digestive complaints (or really anything) I HIGHLY recommend looking into Bioresonance therapy in your area and starting your own personal healing with Louise Hay!

Low Salicylate, Fried Leek, Cabbage and Quinoa Dish

Yummy, failsafe, easy to make low salicylate recipe!

Ingredients:
1 cup Quinoa (soak overnight in filtered water, and rinse through a sieve before use) IMPORTANT for proper digestion and removing lectins
2 leeks
250gms of butter or if you can't tolerate butter some cold pressed organic sunflower oil
A bunch of shallots
If you can tolerate moderate sals use a cup of frozen peas as well
1/4- half a cabbage
500gms organic lamb mince (optional is just as nice without)

Method:
Put around 1/2 cups of filtered water in saucepan with rinsed, soaked quinoa on high
Chop up the cabbage, leeks and shallots, if you are using mince start frying it off in butter or oil, once lightly seared throw in the vegetables and put the lid on and simmer for 5 mins
Take off the lid and fry the veggies  until lightly golden, add peas if you are using them and mix until soft.
Cook the quinoa until it has soaked up all the water and they are swollen and can see the white rings.
Mix the quinoa with the vegetables and serve!

Healing Leaky Gut to Ease Allergies and Food Intolerances

Leaky gut, candida and other digestive disorders can HUGELY impact how severe your reactions to foods you don't tolerate well will be.

When the gut becomes leaky or too permeable this will mean that large particles of food as well as pathogenic microorganisms can escape into the blood stream wreaking all kinds of havoc including immune responses to foods.

Leaky gut can occur very quickly and become a serious problem. It can happen to anyone at any time. The main causes are as follows:

  • Yeast or Candida- Yeast is a single celled microorganism and is found in every human body. This is fine when it is kept in check, however when it gets out of control (which is usually due to antibiotics which kill off other good bacteria but leave candida to proliferate out of control) it becomes a serious problem as it mutates into a fungal form which literally grows root like tentacles that drill into the sensitive mucosal lining and poking holes into the gut causing it to become leaky!
  •  STRESS- stress is a serious factor here- most people with candida and/or leaky gut concentrate obsessively on the diet and less on dealing with how stressed, uptight, angry and/or resentful they are. Stress literally suppresses immune and intestinal function and if left will create serious problems with leaky gut. I recommend purchasing Louise Hay's book You Can Heal Your Life, cheap on fishpond and they do free postage, I have also found her Cd's very helpful for quiet meditation as well as taking a walk in the park each morning and practicing yoga. Take time for yourself, take the kids to the park if you have kids, breathe deeply and instead of criticising yourself and others so much and blaming people or circumstance, tell yourself positive, affirming statements and take control of your own life.
  •  Medications- See a highly experienced naturopath and/or nutritionist that understands salicylate intolerance and talk to them about coming off any unnecessary antibiotics, steroids etc. Stop taking over the counter pain relief like ibuprofen (obviously if you are allergic to salicylates you would avoid anything with aspirin anyway).
  •  Zinc deficiency- Have your naturopath and/or nutritionist test for zinc deficiency, this can also lead to gut permeability, if you are deficient make sure you are supplemented with a high quality liquid zinc.
  •  Diet- Eliminate refined flour, gluten, sugar, toxic fats and processed and packaged foods. This is an obvious for most people who are salicylate intolerant as processed foods contain a BOATLOAD of artificial colours, flavourings and preservatives which can trigger fairly major reactions.  Although refined flour and sugar are apparently safe for someone who is salicylate intolerant they will most certainly contribute to a leaky gut and keep you very sensitive to any new foods. For health and healing please look at my nutritional guidelines on this blog.
For most people to eliminate candida and/or leaky gut and promote digestion we are told to consume a variety of different herbs and spices, different superfoods and coconut oil and a whole range of other things which would do someone who is salicylate intolerant NO GOOD AT ALL! I have been there, I was trying to get well and became more and more sick, it was not pretty.

SO how do we deal with this problem and come to a place where we are well and can return to a nearly normal diet (just avoid those foods that a very high in salicylates most of the time)
FIRSTLY I cannot stress enough that it is fairly imperative to see a highly qualified and reputable naturopath and/or nutritionist and seriously read Louise Hay, I Can Heal Your Life. Being able to cope with life's stress and promoting positive thoughts are essential for healing.

This is how I am dealing with the problem
I take Active Elements Minerals to support my mineral deficiences.
I spoke with the founder of Active Elements, Leslie Fisher and he confirms they do not contain salicylates.
I take Bioceuticals Ultra Clean EPA/DHA plus Fish Oil to assist with inflammation.
I take Thomson's B Complex
Bioglan Vit C (pure no salicylate formula, avoid those with riboflavanoids, rutin etc)
I take Bioceuticals Ultra Biotic 45 to replenish good bacteria
(Edit) OOPS! I also take 2mLs Metagenics liquid zinc at night, I have it after dinner and have a Vit C drink as well which stops it making me feel sick in the stomach.
Doing a detox for a few days can really help, the detox may involve just drinking bone broth soup and juiced vegetables (from the low salicylate column) this gives the digestive tract time to heal as the nutrients are much more easily assimilated and digestion can rest.

When you do go back to whole foods when you are eating make sure that you are relaxed, are enjoying your food to the fullest and CHEW YOUR FOOD PROPERLY!! For the love of everything, leaving huge chunks of food in your mouth and just swallowing them whole is a sure fire way to put distress on your digestive system and contribute to the dis-ease. Sounds gross but please savour your food and chew it in your mouth WELL before swallowing. It doesn't matter if it takes you an hour to eat it. Making something delicious and yummy and savouring every mouthful will go a long way in fixing the problems.
One of the most important aspects of healing digestive health is including a good bone broth and low salicylate vegetable soup, the properties from the bones really go a long way in healing the digestive tract. See my recipe on this blog.

Eliminate unnecessary toxins, I use a Zazen water filter at home, I open and air the house daily, do breathing exercises and make sure I go out and get some sun (Vit D) and fresh air every day.
Look into other alternative methods of healing such as acupuncture, massage (my favourite is kahuna), reflexology and something I am yet to try but looks extremely interesting is Bioresonance therapy http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bioresonance+therapy&oq=bioresonance+therapy&gs_l=youtube.3..0.74.2731.0.2832.16.10.0.5.5.1.469.1836.4j3j1j0j2.10.0...0.0...1ac.1.X3K9QJus5Fo
I am sure I will edit and update this as time goes on, I have probably forgotten a number of helpful tips.

All the best to you all and all my healing thoughts with you.
Jessie.

Yummiest Gluten Free, Low Salicylate Pasta that KIDS WILL LOVE (and adults too)

This is my absolute favourite failsafe pasta dish that I am proud to have invented myself! I adore it and so does my son :)

It is wheat free, gluten free, nut free, low in salicylates (or moderate if you prefer sweet potato) and delicious!

It does contain dairy however goats cheese is generally better tolerated than cows. I find that I can tolerate it ok but I am not as sensitive to dairy as some.

Ingredients:
  • 1 packet of organic brown rice pasta or Orgran rice, garlic and parsley pasta shells.
  •  A few potatoes or 1-2 sweet potatoes if you can tolerate something from the moderate salicylate category now and then, I have started introducing sweet potato, pumpkin and peas with success, I love it with sweet potato but fine if you can only use potato.
  •  Celtic sea salt
  •  1 packet of fresh goats cheese (find at health food store or markets, can even be found at normal supermarkets generally now) if you cannot access this use cottage or ricotta cheese
  •  250gms of homemade, organic butter from pasture fed cows (you should also be able to get organic butter from your local health food store or markets)
  •  A bunch of shallots
  •  2 leeks
  •  A small amount of organic, cold pressed sunflower oil or more butter for roasting the potato/sweet potato
Method:
Put the oven on 200 degrees or around 400 fahrenheit and peel and chop potato/sweet potato into small bite size pieces, about 2cm cubed, place on a baking tray with some oil/butter and some celtic sea salt and put it in the oven until it is nice and golden brown and cooked through.

Place some water onto boil

While it is cooking chop up the leeks and shallots into slices and place in the frying pan on medium heat with a decent amount of butter and cook until golden brown

Once water is boiling cook up the pasta, as soon as it is ready, strain and mix through the fresh goats cheese.
When everything is else is cooked, throw it all into the pot of cooked pasta with goats cheese and mix it all around, put in a little more salt if you feel it needs it.

ENJOY! Such a simple delicious meal. I hope you love it as much as I do :)

I will leave you with some affirmations by the beautiful Louise Hay, say these to yourself throughout the day, in the morning, in bed at night, as you cook and in the shower. Remember to tell yourself that you love yourself and that you accept yourself. Especially in the mirror.

"My life gets more fabulous every day. I look forward to what each new hour brings."
"I am a radiant being, enjoying life to the fullest."
"I know that old, negative patterns no longer limit me. I let them go with ease."
I have really been enjoying reading her books and listening to her audio Cd's, I highly recommend it.

Much support and healing thoughts to you.

The Truth About Fats

I have written an essay on fats/oils as I am extremely passionate about exposing the truth and uncovering the lies we have been fed on this topic.
Low fat diets are NOT better for your health, fats are absolutely essential and critical particularly in children and the elderly and most people actually benefit from a diet HIGHER in fat, it just needs to be the right kinds of fats. You will actually find that you lose weight if you consume the beneficial fats and eliminate the toxic fats.

There is much controversy surrounding whether saturated fatty acids (SFAs) are to blame for cardiovascular disease, according to Enig and Fallon (1999) they are not.  SFAs lower Lp(a), enhance the immune system, are needed to properly utilise essential fatty acids and have important antimicrobial properties. Scientific evidence does not support that SFAs cause heart disease. In fact evaluation of the fat in clogged arteries shows that only 26% of it is made of SFAs where more than half is made up of polyunsaturated fats (Enig & Fallon, 1999).

SFAs are found in butter, palm and coconut oil and animal fats (Barasi, 2007, p. 33).  Although it is widely suggested that butter should be consumed very little, if at all, there are actually many health benefits to be obtained from consuming raw organic butter from grass fed cows including its content of vitamins A, E, D and K and lauric acid, lecithin- essential for cholesterol absorption and antioxidants that protect against weakening arteries (Gates & Schatz, 2011, p. 104).

You can make your own butter in your own home using the Thermomix, just grab some raw cream and churn away! Alternatively you can ferment the cream with a vegetable starter kit, I like Body Ecology brand http://bodyecology.com/articles/benefits_of_real_butter.php and turn it into butter this way. Butter is PERFECTLY SAFE for those of us who are salicylate intolerant and generally even for those who have a mild problem with lactose.

It also received a very undeserved bad rap from America surrounding detriments in terms of cardiovascular disease. Studies actually reveal that coconut oil protects the heart from cardiovascular disease and also has anti-cancer properties. Pacific Islanders who use it as a regular staple have a very low incidence of cardiovascular disease.

Monounsaturated fatty acids tend to be liquid at room temperature and are found in olive oil, canola oil and some nuts and avocados (Enig & Fallon, 1999). They are thought to be a healthy source of fats in small amounts and are said to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, ease inflammation and play beneficial roles in many other health systems (Shulman, 2010, p. 50). However this is certainly not the case for canola oil, which is genetically modified and processed making it harmful for human consumption (Fallon & Enig, 2002). According to a 1998 report, mice fed a diet containing MUFAs were more likely to develop atherosclerosis than those that were fed SFAs (Masterjohn, 2012).

Organic extra virgin olive oil is again very high in salicylates but if salicylates are not a problem for you it is perfectly safe to be used in salads and cooking at moderate temperatures, if you wish to cook at higher temperatures coconut oil is the best for this. It is high in antioxidants and safe to use in moderation.
Again avocados are extremely high in salicylates but are a wonderful source of fatty acids if you do not have a problem with these.

Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are known as essential fatty acids as they are not produced by the body and are needed for the brain, nervous system and retina function (Shulman, 2010, p. 52; Barasi, 2007, p. 33). Scientific research indicates that the modern diet contains far too high levels of PUFAs, around 30% of caloric intake instead of the recommended 4% (Enig & Fallon, 1999). EFAs should be sourced from things like high quality fish oils, flax and safflower oils and some seeds and nuts (Shulman, 2010, p. 52). The problem with PUFAs is that commercially produced vegetable oils become rancid when they are subject to heating, oxygen and moisture in cooking or processing and excess consumption of these has been shown to damage cells, immunity and increase the risk of cancer. (Enig & Fallon, 1999). Clinical trials have failed to support the hypothesis that replacing SFAs with polyunsaturated vegetable oils would prevent heart disease and instead showed clear links to the PUFAs being the culprit. SFAs in the form of arachidonic animal fat were not found to be “deadly” but were necessary for the body to resolve inflammation as needed (Masterjohn, 2012). It is however important to note that studies on omega 3 EFAs have shown beneficial effects in the secondary prevention of coronary heart disease but omegas 6 and 3 should be consumed in a ratio ½:1 instead of 20-30:1 as they are generally consumed these days (Simopoulos, 1999).

I use Bioceuticals UltraClean EPA/DHA Plus. There has been some suggestion that fish oil is beneficial for those who are salicylate intolerant, this may be due to the anti-inflammatory properties but this has not been properly scientifically confirmed, I believe it is a wonderful supplement to have in the diet however especially given we cannot consume the amazing coconut oil or olive oil and avocados. Fish oil and my own homemade butter and sometimes ghee are my sources of essential fats.

The RPAH Salicylate Guidebook recommends safflower oil, sunflower oil and canola oil. As previously mentioned vegetable fats when heated become toxic, the only one of these oils I would use would be safflower oil if it is organic and cold pressed and then only in salads, never heated. If you are salicylate intolerant the safest fats are animal fats, butter, ghee and fish oil.

Trans fatty acids (TFAs) should be avoided particularly in processed and packaged foods (Shulman, 2010, p. 53).  They have been linked with detrimental effects on plasma lipids, raising LDL levels and lowering HDLs, making them a huge concern in terms of cardiovascular disease (Barasi, 2007, p. 33)
In order to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and maintain optimum health it is important to consume the healthy kinds of antimicrobial fats such as animal fats, raw organic butter and coconut oil that once protected us against the onset of pathogenic plaque that leads to heart disease, along with consuming the recommended amount and correct ratio of EFAs omegas 3 and 6 in their natural form and avoiding toxic substances such as free-radical containing vegetable oils, margarine, trans fats and canola oil which cause the body to need constant repair (Enig & Fallon, 1999).

Letting go of the Resentment

I have resented a lot of things in my life. My asthma, acne, the people that bullied me, friends that weren't there for me, my allergies, salicylate intolerance, government bodies, situations, day to day life. I have also harboured a great deal of anger about many of these things. According to Louise Hay the biggest four emotions that create dis-ease in the body are resentment, anger, fear and guilt. I think I have been holding onto all of these emotions for many years, and by the way it is now scientifically proven that thoughts and emotions can either create dis-ease or promote healing, I mean Louise Hay and many of her readers have cured themselves of CANCER with the power of nutrition, affirmations, self-love and positive thinking and there has been a great deal of research surrounding neuropeptides and their connection with illness. If you are interested in understanding more about the amazing power of your thoughts and emotions take a look at the book It's the Thought that Counts: Why Mind Over Matter Really Works.

If you only ever buy one book in your entire life make it Louise Hay's You Can Heal Your Life. Honestly. It will completely change the way you think and if you practice your affirmations and are truly grateful for your life, your family, the food you CAN eat rather than that you can't, your life will completely change for the better. For the love of everything stop blaming other people for the way your life is, your partner, your parents, your kids, your boss, the asshole that just cut you off, the bully at work. You attract your experiences by the thoughts you think, if you take control and think positive, loving, affirming thoughts and stand your ground, be kind but firm, these experiences and situations will begin to dissipate.
Look in the mirror and say to yourself I love you, I really love you. Practice your affirmations, you can make them up, or buy a deck of cards from Louise Hay, everything is cheap on fishpond, get some SUNSHINE, it's not hard to take your kids down to the park or go on a nice walk and sit in the grass, look around you at all the beauty, stop seeing the ugly and the bad in everyone and look for the good, the little old lady with a scary beard and not so attractive clothes could be the kindest, most wise woman you have ever encountered.

Stop WHINING about your intolerances, really, last night I ate an organic eye fillet, in a homemade butter sauce (butter that I had made myself from organic, pasture fed cream), fried up some leeks and shallots and made some suede mash with butter, celtic sea salt and natural yoghurt. Dinner fit for a queen! Next post I will post my all time favourite delicious pasta dish that kids will LOVE.
Also if you are worried about all the butter I consume, stop, you have been fed a ridiculous amount of lies about butter, read these articles for more information http://bodyecology.com/articles/benefits_of_real_butter.php, http://www.westonaprice.org/know-your-fats/skinny-on-fats.
Much love and support to you all :)

Going Gluten Free, Benefits for Everyone

Digestive disorders such as Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, candida, food intolerances, allergies and autism are more and more common in today's society. The American food pyramid would have us believe that we should consume mostly pasta, cereal, bread, flour etc. This couldn't be further from the truth and guess who the pyramid was created by? Someone who was employed by Kellogg's, surprise surprise (thanks to my fabulous nutrition lecturer Leonie for this little insight).

Flour is literally glue in your digestive system, it has no nutritional value given it is stripped of all the vitamins and minerals during processing. It can lead to blood sugar problems as flour breaks down into glucose, constipation and literally FEEDS yeast and pathogens, it 'gums up' your insides and is a major contributor to all the aforementioned dis-eases. Unfortunately gluten intolerance or celiac disease is more and more common and even whole grains such as spelt, rye and oats can be a problem for these people, as well as those battling candida or a yeast infection. Fortunately there are a few wonderful products that you can use to overcome this situation. My personal favourite is quinoa, this grain, or really seed, is truly amazing. It is a complete protein, carrying all nine essential amino acids, is high in magnesium, essential for relaxing muscles and a variety of essential bodily functions, fantastic source of fiber (yes I am going there, you will poop better), it is also a good source of manganese and is an excellent antioxidant, removing free-radicals, aiding in the prevention of cancer and other dis-eases. PLEASE ENSURE YOU SOAK IT OVERNIGHT FIRST. This will ensure proper digestion and assimilation and get rid of any lectins which can be a problem.

Buckwheat, millet and amaranth are also excellent alternatives but to ensure proper digestion and assimilation it is an excellent idea to first soak these grains in some filtered water overnight or for the day before you cook them :) Going gluten free is NOT the end to eating wonderfully delicious meals, there are so many options and delicious things you can make that are full of nutrients and will leave you feeling vibrant and healthy, help digestion, constipation, acne, fatigue and even irritability. Give the gluten free way a go for a few weeks and let me know if you notice any changes.

I have also found these noodles called miracle noodles that are gluten and wheat free, I am NOT sure if they are acceptable for those of us who are salicylate intolerant but it's definitely worth checking out, here is the link :) http://www.miraclenoodle.com/default.aspx If you want to know more about the benefits of going gluten free visit these wonderful links-

Affirmations and my Perfect, Low Salicylate Breakfast Smoothie

Recently I have discovered the magic of Louise Hay and her healing through affirmations, self love and positive thinking. Every morning I wake up, thank the universe for my beautiful family, my life, the food I DO get to consume (and forget about the food I can't), my home, my friends and my education. Then I meditate for a little while in the sun and tell myself that I am worthy, vibrant, healthy and a good person. I actually stand in front of the mirror and say I LOVE YOU, I REALLY LOVE YOU. Yes I felt like a complete and utter dickhead when I first started doing this, like I am tooting my own horn or something. But it has really changed my life, I also read I Can Do It Affirmations every day. I can feel my health getting better, my skin is clearing and even my sons behaviour has changed because I am happier within myself.
According to Louise Hay, metaphysically allergies relate to being allergic to someone and denying your own power, she recommends the affirmation "The world is safe and friendly. I am safe. I am at peace with life". Say this to yourself several times each day.
Now for a delicious, low salicylate, green breakfast smoothie!
Juice a few stalks of celery and one packham pear, add some low salicylate pea protein powder (I like Tony Sfeir's or Eagle) and blend with some natural yoghurt (Barambah is organic and ridiculously delicious), voila! Protein packed, alkalising, energy giving and DELICIOUS smoothie :)

A Healthy Guide to Foods Low in Salicylates

Unfortunately there is a boatload of misinformation on the internet about the salicylate levels in foods. Here I will write out the true list adapted from the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital guide, including only healthy foods that promote healing and leaving out GMO products, sugar, wheat, gluten and fats/oils that promote toxicity.

LOW:
Fresh ripe pears
Potato (I find it best to limit or eliminate this is if you have digestive problems or candida)
Iceberg lettuce, Bamboo shoots (tinned and fresh), Beans- butter, french, string or snake, Bean shoots, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage- red, green (drumhead), savoy, wombok, Celery, Chives, Choko, Garlic- very small amounts only, Leek, Mungbean sprouts, Shallot, Swede
Fresh, unaged, unprocessed, organic meat- chicken without the skin, lamb, veal, beef
White fish- bream, flathead, ling, perch, snapper, whiting
Crab, Lobster, Calamari, Sea Scallops, Natural Oysters, Mussels
Fresh, free range, organic eggs
Dried and canned legumes as listed-
NB legumes should be soaked and drained overnight for at least 12-18 hours for proper absorbtion and easy digestion and then cooked. They should be avoided where there are serious digestive issues or candida is involved.
Split peas- green and yellow, Chickpeas and chickpea flour (besan flour), Lentils- red and brown, Borlotti beans, Canellini beans, Lima beans, Haricot beans, Black eye beans, Red kidney beans, Soya beans, White beans, Bean mixes
Cashew Nuts- this site will not include any recipes with nuts as I am allergic
Poppy seeds
Agar Agar, Baking Powder, Bicarbonate of soda, Carob powder, Citric Acid, Guar gum and Xanthan gum, Natural vanilla essence, Vanilla pods
Garnishes- chives, parsley, saffron threads, shallots, spring onion and celtic sea salt
Butter- make your own in the Thermomix from fresh organic cream or buy a good quality organic butter for optimum health or use Ghee. The only other dairy I consume is natural yoghurt in my morning smoothie (I like organic Barambah) I also use fresh goats cheese from the markets or health food store.
The RPAH book recommends Canola, rice bran oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil and soy oils but the only one I would be using would be safflower oil and then only on VERY low heat if at all and only organic cold pressed, these kinds of oils can cause serious damage to your cells, heart health and immune system not to mention put on weight. Check out this article for more info http://www.westonaprice.org/know-your-fats/skinny-on-fats
The only flours/grains I use are listed below. I mill my own flour using the Thermomix so that I get the nutritional value of the husks freshly milled- flour should be used sparingly and as a special treat, 80% of your diet should be made up of  vegetables for optimum health!
Amaranth, Buckwheat, Besan, Tapioca, Potato, Quinoa, Brown rice, Rice paper
These foods are all low in salicylates, because of my sensitivity I stick to mostly these foods but will soon be introducing foods in the moderate category.

The Game Changing Machine for the Allergy Free, Whole Foods Cook

The most exciting thing happened, I walked into my class at college and this woman had a little station set up with all of these dips, homemade breads and homemade yoghurt. She was there to demonstrate the amazing Thermomix. The Thermomix is a German machine known as the world's smallest, smartest kitchen. It is used on Masterchef and has so many uses! It chops, beats, emulsifies, juices, mills flour, churns butter, kneads dough, cooks, stirs, steams, weighs and more. You can make salads, peanut butter, cake mixes, sorbets, juices and drinks, pizza, pasta and bread dough, risottos, sauces and gravies, custard, soups, jams and spreads and loads more in a matter of seconds to minutes.
I knew this was going to be an absolute game changer for someone with terrible allergies, intolerances and food restrictions because anything can be made from scratch so quickly and you know exactly what is going into everything that is made, it cuts down on SO much time spent in the kitchen, it is literally mind blowing. My excitement was barely containable. She whipped up a homemade fruit sorbet in seconds, churned butter in less than a minute from fresh, organic cream, showed us how to make our own muesli, it was all so quick and easy and wonderful.
I decided to take the plunge and become a consultant, I am so excited to show this wonderful machine to others, I really believe it can change the lives of those with food restrictions, it will be so easy to enjoy good, homemade food without being a slave to the kitchen! Very exciting, contact me for a free home demonstration of the machine in Brisbane on jessrems@gmail.com. You will be just as amazed as I was :)

Healing Chicken Bone Broth Soup

This soup is absolutely vital for healing digestive disorders, it is low in salicylates and delicious! Make a batch big enough to last the week and have as a beautiful entree for any meal or on its own.
Ingredients:
  • 1 Organic chicken carcass (hormone free, important!)
  • 2 leeks
  • 2 potatoes
  • 1 suede
  • 1 bunch of shallots
  • Celtic sea salt
Method:
Fill a very large pot with filtered water, place the chicken carcass in the pot and bring to the boil with the lid on, once boiling reduce to simmer on low for 6-12 hours (the longer it simmers the better it will taste and the more goodness you will extract from the bones etc)
Strain the chicken out and return broth to pot, throw in chopped/diced vegetables and bring to the boil again, then reduce to simmer for a further hour and strain out the vegetables. You will be left with a broth that will boost your immunity and ease any digestive discomfort.
Will keep for nearly a week in the fridge or many months in the freezer. For more information about the amazing health benefits of bone broth soup visit http://www.westonaprice.org/food-features/broth-is-beautiful

Warrior Woman

While I was in Thailand doing a ten day detox in the hopes it would help with my acne and digestive problems, I met a wonderful woman named Dorien Israel, this would be my first experience with affirmations, self love and positive thinking. Dorien walked straight up to me and physically made me stand up straight, for a long time I have walked around with slumped, rounded shoulders, hiding my face from the world. She looked me in the eyes and said I am a Warrior Woman, stand tall and strong! Be proud and bold and believe in myself. I had an unbound life coaching session with her, it was so revealing, before this time all I did was obsess over my skin and my health issues and concentrate on the dietary requirements and medicine to help with these, I fed myself ridiculous amounts of negativity and hate. She opened my eyes to the importance of loving myself and how I would only start to truly heal if I treated myself with kindness and affirmations. She taught me to look in the mirror every day and repeat I love you, I really love you and to practice meditation. It is amazing how quickly my skin started to heal and my health problems began improving. http://dorien-becomingunbound.blogspot.com.au/

The Keys to Health and Healing

I absolutely believe that nutrition and positive thinking are the cornerstones of all healing.
I follow the following dietary guidelines adopted from the Weston A. Price Foundation (of course altered to suit my salicylate intolerance and the fact that I don't consume any alcohol) I believe there are many people who have been lied to and let down by the pharmaceutical companies who want us to believe we are in a constant state of disrepair and need drugs to make us "better" (with all of their nasty side effects) of course Western Medicine has its place (like saving my life from meningococcal) but people really need to wake up and stop consuming toxic vegetable oils, processed and packaged foods, sugar, flour and rubbish that basically destroys them completely. Let's take a leaf out of the non-industrialised, isolated people who are amazingly healthy, happy and live long lives without many of today's diseases such as diabetes, obesity, various cancers, digestive disorders, intolerance's and the extreme unhappiness that comes with all of these things.
  1. Eat whole, natural foods.
  2. Eat only foods that will spoil, but eat them before they do.
  3. Eat naturally-raised meat including fish, seafood, poultry, beef, lamb, game, organ meats and eggs.
  4. Eat whole, naturally-produced milk products from pasture-fed cows, preferably raw and/or fermented, such as whole yogurt, cultured butter, whole cheeses and fresh and sour cream.
  5. Use only traditional fats and oils including butter and other animal fats, extra virgin olive oil, expeller expressed sesame and flax oil and the tropical oils—coconut and palm (If you are salicylate intolerant use only butter from pasture fed cows, you can churn your own from fresh organic cream in the Thermomix, animal fats or ghee!, absolutely avoid toxic, free-radical producing vegetable oils and margarine)
  6. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably organic, in salads and soups, or lightly steamed or stir fried
  7. Use whole grains that have been prepared by soaking, sprouting or sour leavening to neutralize phytic acid and other anti-nutrients.
  8. Prepare homemade meat stocks from the bones of chicken, beef, lamb or fish and use liberally in soups and sauces.
  9. Use filtered water for cooking and drinking.
  10. Use unrefined Celtic sea salt
  11. Cook only in stainless steel, cast iron, glass or good quality enamel.
  12. Use only natural supplements where there is a clear deficiency.
  13. Get plenty of sleep, exercise and natural light.
  14. Think positive thoughts and minimize stress.
  15. Practice forgiveness.
